Improvisation workshops

Service Description

Before 1840, a trained string player was expected to improvise, embellish a melody, and extemporise cadenza. As a classically-trained violinist, I understand the ways that Western art pedagogy may instil an apprehensiveness toward improvisation. My strings workshops facilitate new improvisers to experiment with variety of idioms including blues, folk, Indian classical, using stylistically familiar melodic language. If you can play a major scale, you can improvise! These workshops cater to new improvisers with less than 3 years experience on instrument, and separately, those of more advanced levels (more than 3 years).
